Stewart Sampson has been involved in occupational health and safety for over 40 years. Starting in the hard rock mining industry in northern New Brunswick, he then moved to Alberta for a stint in the oil sands. In both places, Stewart was heavily involved in occupational hygiene.
Stewart then took a position as an occupational hygienist and inspector with the Labour Department of the Nova Scotia Government. Staying there for over 20 years, he was initially involved in safety and health inspections of industry of all descriptions, assessing compliance with the various OH&S laws. Stewart then moved to the management side and took over the law reform area, overseeing the development of most of the OH&S regulations currently in effect in Nova Scotia.
Stewart eventually left the enforcement side and took a position developing and implementing OH&S programs for several Nova Scotia Government departments. He was also instrumental in the creation of the Government's internal audit program.
Stewart is now an independent consultant and the owner of New Wave Occupational Health and Safety Services. He splits his time between training and consulting with a wide variety of clients across Canada.
Stewart has facilitated almost 100 ethics classes in the past 2 years.
